Garden Annex

As spring begins to creep into the Ozarks, it’s time for a new garden venture!

At the Brother Jones Corporate farm and chicken complex, a new mole mashed area has been designated as the plot for some raised bed gardening. How big you ask? This beast measures 36’ x 28’. Will easily accommodate about four 4×16’ beds… more or less.

The kicker to this is that the beds are to be filled with everything BUT dirt. Yep, soil-less growing material… check this out…

my burning question is, why is your garden on top of a platform?

...OH, OH, OH… I think I can answer that! You don’t have to move under a platform! Am I right? Huh? Huh?

I wanted a perimeter to “hold in” the mulch…

And, it gives the moles a defined area to dig around in for maximum homeowner irritation.

AHhhh… the photos you sent made it look like the whole garden was being built on top of a 3 foot tall raised platform. Now I see that was just an optical conclusion… my mistake! It’s all making more sense now that I am semi-awake and almost coherent…

...if you would just leave that all as is and fill it with water in the winter, you’d have yourself one mighty fine hockey rink…

Will there be any corresponding security system to protect said “wonder garden”?

Also, I have a 4’ X 8’ area out behind my house for a garden. If you could tell me the secret ingredients, I could at least feed half my family!

I’m thinking a couple of these will provide some protection…Scarecrow Motion-Activated Sprinkler

I was just thinking that you live in a pretty “seedy” area and the temptation could be there for some free food. Not by me of course!

You’re talking veggie theft! I might rig up these scarecrow sprinklers with a little bleach and acid mixture…
