Sheba has left the city

I am still on track reading through the Bible this year and I recently read this story in 2 Samuel 20:14-22. The story is filled with visual imagery that I think would make a wonderful addition to the See With Me Bible. Here is the BJV (Brother Jones Version) of the story.

Joab and his troops arrive at the city of Abel. They build a siege ramp to the city wall and then begin battering it down.

A “wise woman” from the city shouted down to Joab. “Dude! why are you attacking our fair city? It is a really cool place! We like it a lot, though we could use a Starbucks here.”

Joab replied, “We got no beef with your fair city, M’am… we are just after Sheba son of Bicri… he’s one bad dude!”

The woman said, “GOODGOLLYBUM! Chill out, bro… I’ll be riiiiight back.”

So she left, then returned later and lobbed Sheba’s head over the wall to Joab. This made Joab verrrry happy, : ) so he blew his trumpet and the troops all went home to enjoy some fine dining, hot tubbing and a game of darts.

OK, Dennis… get to work on this story. I think you can really have fun with it and I hope to see it in the revised edition of the See With Me (gasp) Bible.

I love that rendition, Ouglas! And your illustration pretty much put the whole story in perspective. I would’ve liked to see a tongue hanging out of that dead head though.

...I’m seeing a Brother Jones Bible Story book in the making here, boys… we could use stories like this one that are often ignored by the big publishers… it would make a nice bedtime story book for young children… sweet dreams, kiddies… we could market research it with the new babies that are currently in our extended family…

I HAVE noticed that a lot of Bible stories are overlooked for some reason when the picture Bibles are made. It could be they have something against pictures of folks getting run through with swords and things. I think we need to mine this area for some more gems.

Don… your turn… find a good story and give us the BJV version of it.

Doug,

You right on there…not just publishers either. I remember when “Braveheart” came out. I thought, this is a great story and a great movie but there are tons of these in the Bible if the studios, writers, producers, etc. would go there! Which David you think makes a better movie…the one with the sling shot that so neatly beaned the giant, or, the one that was still truckin’ around with that same giant’s head, when he was walking in downtown Jerusalem? The Harp or the Sword?
