Smoke and Mirrors

the secret

I was always curious about how Gary does the cool sketches he posts on his blog… so I ASKED. Thanks to the DETAILED instructions I received, I gave it a try on this doodle. Shuckydarn! It works! Now I got a new toy to play with.

Remember… this is a 5 minute test piece. Need to work on my chops some…

Oh… I also liked Gary’s response to the above comment. It is EXACTLY what I was thinking too…

Nice Sketch there Doug, but can you share the how-to with us peasants too, or do we need to write Gary?

I have to do allot of sketches before the powers I work for approve anything. So, I would like to have them look a little better ( colorwise ) than the scans I’m turning in now.

Bernardo… I tried every slider I cold find to make the scan of my tracing paper sketch turn a color. Then I spied the little box that said COLORIZE. When I clicked on that I could then adjust the color of the scan… wa-la…

I tried the burn tool to darken some areas… then tried the brush tool on multiply to darken some areas… then the brush tool on 30% opacity white to lighten areas… I’m still seeing what works best…

good luck, may the Force be with you

Hey Doug, as much as I like to complain about having to use the computer for my art these days….I do get a buzz everytime I learn a new shortcut, trick or have an “oh wow” moment from something learned from the pro’s.

if you find any pros around here let me know. I am the opposite of a pro, which would be an orp…
