Coffee Pucks

a coffee puck for the garden

big bags of coffee in our composting area
I received a Starbucks gift card a while back and stopped in recently to put it to use. While I was waiting for my Cafe Mocha to be prepared, I saw a note on the bulletin board that told of the benefits of putting coffee grounds on your garden. It said to ask the barista about it, so I did. Long story short, we are now picking up bags of coffee grounds for our garden.
Cindy stopped at a different location the other day and they were not keeping the grounds for gardeners, but said there was a dumpster behind the store with nothing but coffee in it. SCORE!
The cool thing is the coffee looks like little hockey pucks when it comes out of the espresso machine.
I can’t wait to get wired from eating my tomatoes this summer…

Thanks for this gardening gem of a tip! I am off to Starbucks…
I am putting together some plant-free raised beds and am looking forward to admiring the rich, dark dirt with espresso roast mixture.

...Karen used to have me save coffee grounds for her to put on the garden but I never really knew why… I thought it was to chase away varmints… what is the magical purpose for the coffee grounds in the garden?

It’s called soil conditioning or in Missouri
